Birdsville flight & overnight !

Our pilot Andreas, with his excited passengers, departed Hawker this morning on another two day Lake Eyre/Birdsville flight. They will be making their way up past The Marree Man, over Lake Eyre and along the Warburton Groove on Lake Eyre North as I write this report. It is no doubt my favourite trip and I am slightly very jealous!!

Later following the Warburton River up between the Simpson and The Tirari Deserts they’ll fly all the way up over Goyder’s Lagoon to the Diamantina River and the legendary Sir Sydney Kidmans “channel country”.

After a night at the Birdsville Hotel (Friday night, should be good one to meet the locals) they will head south east over the Coongie Lakes  and onto the Burke and Wills Dig Tree, then a short hop to Innamincka for lunch at the pub, on the banks of the Cooper Creek.

The last leg is down past the salt lakes, Blanch and Frome, along the backbone of the ancient Flinders Ranges, over Sillers Lookout and Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary.

They finish off with a Wilpena Pound arial display and down along the Elder Range before landing back at Hawker.

Historically rich and visually stunning Birdsville flight is my favourite Outback flight, I can’t wait to hear what the passengers think of it!

That looks like an awesome trip! All in a C172?
